While King.com Limited has defended its decision to file for trademark protection of “Candy” as a business move to ward off rivals from cashing in on its successful Candy Crush Saga, fellow game developers argue that “Candy” is just too common of a word to be protected on its own. The trademark application is somewhat questionable in that the game concerns candy and thus it can be argued that it is merely descriptive.
