IPNews® – The copyright to the song “Happy Birthday” was recently ruled invalid by a federal judge.
The judge determined that Warner/Chappell Music held the right to the melody and the piano arrangements based on the melody, but not the rights to the lyrics. As a result of the decision Warner/Chappell may be forced to return a large portion of the $2 million in annual licensing fees that it has collected.
