Casinos Sued for Patent Infringement over Slot Machines

Maker's Mark Wax Seal Trademark Upheld

whiskey-in-glasses.jpgIPNews® - The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit issued its judgment upholding the Maker's Mark wax seal trade dress.

Microsoft and Barnes & Noble Become Partners After Patent Fight

microsoft.jpgIPNews® - After a year-long patent infringement dispute, Microsoft and Barnes & Noble have reached a settlement and in doing so also created a new partnership.

Denim Debacle: Vanity Files Against Levi Strauss over Pocket Design

jeans.jpgIPNews® - Fearing a trademark infringement lawsuit from denim giant Levi Strauss & Company, a North Dakota-based retailer filed first asking a judge to settle the dispute. 

Vanity Clothing of Fargo filed a complaint in response to a cease and desist letter that it received from Levi Strauss related to the “V” pocket design on its jeans.  Vanity is seeking an order from the judge that its design is not confusingly similar to Levi’s design.  To continuing reading, click: Denim Debacle

Judge Orders Apple and Samsung to Limit Claims in Patent and Trademark Case

apple-logo.jpgIPNews® - Apple and Samsung are facing an order by a Judge to limit patent and trademark claims against one another.

Judge Kho of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has recently ordered that Apple and Samsung attempt to simplify the case prior to trial so as not to confuse a jury.  The trial date is set for July 30 but Judge Koh has threatened to postpone the trial if necessary.  To continue reading, click: Apple v. Saphora in Fragrance Fight over Fragrance Flights

Back in the Swing: Callaway Settles Patent Claims

Burberry Fights Trademark Infringement Claim Over Humphrey Bogart Image

movie-symbol.jpgIPNews® - Burberry Group, the London high fashion house, has filed a complaint with a New York federal court, asking it to declare that the British company did not infringe on the trademark for late actor Humphrey Bogart.

Judge Finds an Allergan Patent to be Invalid

pills.jpgIPNews® - A U.S. District Court in Delaware recently ruled that Allergan’s patents related to its Sanctura XR drug are invalid. 

The ruling stems from a 2009 patent infringement complaint filed by Allergan against Watson Pharmaceuticals, in its attempts to prevent Watson from filing an abbreviated new drug application with the FDA for the generic version of Sanctura.  Allergan currently has two other patent infringement complaints filed against Watson.  To continue reading click: Allergan Loses Patents

Mmmm...Beer: German Brewer Attempts to Register Duff Beer

beer-bottle-pouring.jpgIPNews® - Duff Beer UG, a German-based brewer, is attempting to register the trademark “Duff” with the European Union general court, in its attempt to cash in on cartoon character Homer Simpson’s favorite beverage.
